24th Annual Manassas Fall Jubilee

Join us on Saturday, October 6 or 13, 2007 in Historic Old Town Manassas to celebrate the 25th Annual Fall Jubilee from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm.

This year's Jubilee will include an assortment of live entertainment. Different local groups will be entertaining the crowd in "Street Scenes" in the Depot Parking Lot. The Kids Corner features performances by jugglers, magicians, and even a robot!

Don't forget the main attraction of the Jubilee, our artisans and crafters! Handmade jewelry, woodcrafts, musical instruments, handmade furniture, and other unique art and crafts will all be in attendance. A great way to get an early start on your holiday shopping! Stop by to say hello to our community exhibits as well, many of whom will be raffling off some great prizes such as a quilt or even a portrait of your pet!

"Merry Old Town" Holiday Festivities 2007

Make time to enjoy old-fashioned family fun at the "Merry Old Town" celebration in Old Town Manassas! The holiday fun begins on Friday, November 30, 2007 at 6:00p.m. when Santa arrives at the Manassas Depot via VRE train. The Annual Christmas Tree Lighting will be at 6:30 at the Museum. Plans for this evening include a live concert on the lawn of The Manassas Museum, lighting of the Christmas Tree by Mayor Waldron and Santa, free hayrides, and, of course, Santa will hear the Christmas Wishes of all the Children at the Harris Pavilion Gazebo. The Manassas Museum will also be conducting their Annual Holiday Open House and offering free admission. Gather family and friends for this evening of light and cheer. The 11th Annual Gingerbread Contest also begins on this day. Cotton candy rooftops and peppermint-drop footpaths will trim the creations of the gingerbread “artists” competing in the 11th Annual Gingerbread Contest. Decorated structures of all sizes and shapes will be on display during the “Merry Old Town” Celebration in Historic Old Town Manassas. Entries will be displayed in Old Town shop windows for the public to place their vote. The first place winners will be selected by the public and announced on Saturday, December 15. On Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 10:00 am, celebrate the holidays as we honor the 61-year-long tradition of the Greater Manassas Christmas Parade! Watch the enchantment of the parade unfold as it marches through Old Town with amazing floats, local celebrities, live performances, marching bands, equestrians, animated characters, giant balloons, and, of course, Santa himself!

The Merchants of Old Town Manassas keep the southern tradition of hospitality alive when the open their doors for their Open House on Sunday, December 2, from noon until 5:00 p.m. Old Town shops celebrate a variety of tastes and interests with an outstanding array of unique shops. Professional and local choral groups will sing to the public on the street corners and a horse drawn carriage offers free rides around Old Town.

December 9th from 1:00 until 4:00 pm, free horse drawn carriage rides, sponsored by: Commerce Bank. Come and see Santa at the Train Depot from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.

2007 Special Events


Saturdays, May 5th, June 2nd, July 7th, August 4th September 1st, and October 6th Reel in some family fun at the Kids Fishing Tournament taking place once a month at Leesylvania State Park. Children ages 4-12 are introduced to the sport of fishing. There is plenty of friendly assistance to help kids with casting and baiting hooks. July 25th - October 14th The Lazy Susan Dinner Theatre presents “Clue”. This internationally famous board game is now a fun-filled musical. Leesylvania State Park presents the Anniversary of the Potomac River Blockade: The Fight at Freestone Point Civil War Battery. Join the anniversary of the building of the confederacy’s northernmost artillery battery that helped blockade the Potomac River in 1861. This event features a Civil War encampment, weapons firing demonstrations, period music, children’s games, and guided history walks up to the Freestone Point Battery. 11 a.m.- 4 p.m., Leesylvania State Park Visitor Center, 2001 Daniel K. Historic Occoquan Fall Arts and Crafts Show.  The streets of this quaint and charming former mill town welcome more than 350 juried artists and crafters. Bring your entire family, a picnic, and a camera to The Western Prince William County Farm Tour.  Enjoy a weekend in the country experiencing modern farm life and the rich rural history of western Prince William County. Oct. 1st
Come and hear interpretation about the house, and stories about previous owners, i.e., The Blackburn Family, at Ghost Tours at Rippon Lodge Historic Site.  Tour the grounds (cemetery) at night.  The program will conclude each night with a campfire and refreshments. 7:00 p.m.–9:30 p.m., 15500 Blackburn Road, Woodbridge, 703-792-5632,  $5 per adult, $3 per child.  Handicapped-accessible.

Oct. 6th-7th, 13th-14th, 20th-21st, 27th-28th
Visitors are invited to a sleep over inside one of the most purportedly haunted houses in Dumfries at the Haunted Lock-Ins at Weems-Botts Museum.  Staff members walk guests through Historic Dumfries Cemetery and museum, relating many ghost stories. Oct. 13th
This is your chance to learn about The Spirited Past of Manassas by taking a themed tour of Historic Old Town Manassas.  Stroll through Old Town on this Friday the 13th, as costumed interpreters share some surprising and little known stories about the history of the town. 5:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m., 9101 Prince William Street, Manassas, 703-368-1873.   $10   Handicapped-accessible.

Oct. 20th-21st
Walk through history and hear tales of  “spirits” past during Occoquan Ghost Tours. Hosted by the Occoquan Merchants Association, these one-hour narrated walking tours begin at 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. $10 per person. Reservations are required, meet at 125 Mill Street, Occoquan.  703-491-0635.

Oct. 27th-29th
The Ghost Tours of the Ben Lomond Historic Site focus on the Civil War  time period.  Interpretation will provide a background on events that took place during this time.  “Ghosts” of deceased Civil War soldiers will be “at” the tour.  The program will conclude each night with a campfire and refreshments. 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m., 10311 Sudley Manor Drive, Manassas,  $5 per adult, $3 per child. 703-792-5632. Oct. 27th-28 th
Sometimes things go “bump in the night”, the Trail of Terror is one of those things. Oct. 27th-28th
A grand adventure for all who dare is the Haunted History Hike at Leesylvania State Park. View colorful vignettes of persons in the past who have lived (and died) at Leesylvania.   The tour lasts approximately one hour, and takes place along the two-mile, moderate terrain of Lee’s Woods Trail.  Bring your courage to this safe, family-oriented, fun-for-all program.  An evening you really don’t want to miss.  6:00 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. 2001 Daniel K. Oct. 28th-29th
Manassas Dance Company presents “Dracula”, an all new version of their crowd pleasing telling of this classic story. October 2nd - 30th The Center for the Arts presents an Exhibition of Artists Work Created by the Northern Virginia Community College Art Faculty. October 7th Sponsored by the National Park Service, join in a Fall Battlefield Hike with an emphasis on the Battle of First Manassas.  Costumed interpreters will join the hike along the way for special programs. The five-mile hike takes approximately 4 hours. Appropriate clothing, shoes and water recommended. Portable restrooms and water will be provided along the way.  The hike is easy and open to all ages. 12:00 noon-4:00 p.m.  Hike begins at the Visitors Center, Manassas National Battlefield Park, 6511 Sudley Road, Manassas, 703-361-1339. $3 park admission. 17 and under FREE.

October 13th - 14th Manassas-based Prince William Little Theatre presents the Pulitzer prize-winning play “Driving Miss Daisy” written by Alfred Uhry.  This story of relationships, friendships, kindness, and love takes place from 1948-1973. October 14th -15th Take a Battle Anniversary Tour of the Bristow Battlefield. A living history walking tour will be conducted in observance of the 146th Anniversary of the start of the Civil War, with professional interpretation to provide a historic portrayal of past battles. 12:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., General Kirkland Drive, Bristow, 703-792-5632  $5.

The Lazy Susan Dinner Theatre presents “No, No, Nanette” the biggest Broadway musical hit of the 1920’s.  This delightful musical comedy is an endearing remembrance of the gaudy foolishness, the giddiness and the glory of that cheerful and uncomplicated era.  The Lazy Susan is one of the Washington region’s preeminent dinner theatres. Dinner includes a Pennsylvania Dutch-style buffet – featuring homemade dishes, fresh-baked breads and award-winning desserts. October 21st- 22nd Learn about one of the county’s oldest sites, at the annual Harvest Festival hosted by the Prince William County Historic Preservation Division.  This two-day event is designed to allow several hundred citizens come tour the grounds of Rippon Lodge with professional interpretation.  The event will also include food, games, crafts, as well as an open gift shop. 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. 15500 Blackburn Road, Woodbridge. $5 admission, ages 2 and under are FREE. 703-792-5632. October 24th The Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra is presenting Mozart and His Mentors.
